About our millets

What does "steamed and roasted" mean?

Our puttu podi, flours and whole millets are steamed and then roasted before packing, so they are ready to cook. Check each pack for its cooking directions.

What is puttu podi?

Puttu podi is a coarse flour used to make puttu, a steamed breakfast dish from Kerala and Tamil Nadu. Our millet puttu podi lets you make puttu with ragi, foxtail, barnyard, kodo, little millet, sorghum or a millet mix.

What is the difference between puttu podi and millet flour?

Puttu podi has a coarser texture that suits steaming. Millet flour is suited to dosa, roti, porridge and other everyday cooking.

Which millets do you sell?

Finger millet (ragi), foxtail millet (thinai), barnyard millet (kuthiraivali), kodo millet (varagu), little millet (samai), sorghum (jowar) and a millet mix. Not every millet is available in every format; see our millet collection.

What pack sizes are available?

Our millet products currently come in 500 g packs.

Who makes your millet products?

Our millet range is manufactured by D Gama Organics in Ayoor, Kollam, Kerala, and sold by BuySouthSpecial. Orders currently arrive in the manufacturer's original sealed packs. Manufacturer details and licence information are printed on each pack.
